About DaCRA

Danish Cardiovascular Research Academy was founded in 2003 as a national PhD School supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The original goal was to improve the quantity and particularly the quality of the PhD education within cardiovascular sciences. This goal has been accomplished to a great extent, and today DaCRA – now supported by the Faculties of Health Sciences at Danish Universities – constitutes a national network for cardiovascular scientists with more than 600 members. Our main focus is still on the quality of PhD education and our activities include a comprehensive program of high-quality PhD courses and networking activities between PhD students and supervisors. The latter purpose is in particular accomplished at the Annual Summer Schools at Sandbjerg Manor where our PhD students are trained to present their projects in a qualified forum of national and international experts.

Membership is strongly recommended for PhD students and may be obtained by other scientists working within cardiovascular sciences - from the pregraduate to the advanced level. Membership is free and is obtained by sending an application form to dacra@sund.ku.dk (see Members).

DaCRA had great success in creating a previously non-existing network between cardiovascular scientists both in Academia and in the private sector. It is our goal to maintain and expand the networking activities to include all research groups interested in collaboration. This is an open invitation to join our network by applying for membership.

At present the following Faculties participate in the collaboration:

Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen (KU-SUND)
Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Aarhus (AU-SUN)
Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU-SUND)
Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Aalborg (AAU-SUND)
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen (KU-LIFE)
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen (KU-FARMA)
Medicinska Fakultetet, Lund University (LU-MED)
